A WEEK OF LOVE: 5c’s FOR HEALTHIER RELATIONSHIPS

WEEKLY ENCOURAGEMENT FEB 7-13, 2021

HELLO, PISD FAMILY!

We want to encourage you, both children and parents/guardians through these weekly newsletters. We want you to know that you are loved and that we can all change the world one person or family, at a time by loving each other. We want you to know that we overcome challenges together, and one way is through encouraging one another.

Check the 5c’s for Healthier Relationships

Character

But that’s not all! Even in times of trouble we have a joyful confidence, knowing that our pressures will develop in us patient endurance. And patient endurance will refine our character, and proven character leads us back to hope. And this hope is not a disappointing fantasy, because we can now experience the endless love of God cascading into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who lives in us!” Romans 5:3-5

Character is refined by endurance through hardships. I don’t know if people have ever called out your character or said negative things about you but I do know that everyone goes through hardships. So if you’re in a hard time right now, don’t despair. As said in this verse, hard times should help us endure and refine our character.

This means that when we do our best and let God do the rest, when we show up every day to do what needs to be done, we will not only survive but we will thrive and excel. Character is important because good character attracts things in life that money can’t buy. Good relationships, time well spent, valuable memories, lasting blessings, and so on.

If you wonder why relationships are not as they should be, maybe check your character first and see if it reflects the good character you want to live.

Confession

“Confess and acknowledge how you have offended one another and then pray for one another to be instantly healed, for tremendous power is released through the passionate, heartfelt prayer of a godly believer!” James 5:16

Another thing that could be keeping relationships from growing is when hurts, bitterness, unforgiveness, and the like are harbored in your heart. Confessing and being honest about what’s going on not only helps to find a conclusion and better way to fix and heal, but it lifts you up and empties you off the added weight you carry. It empties you to be filled with God’s presence and peace.

Check your heart and see if there is anything to confess to God, to your family, and to yourself.

Community

So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you’re already doing this; just keep on doing it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:10

We can’t thrive in life alone. We need the right community around us that will build us up and encourage us to stand for what’s right, be filled with the Truth, and just go through life together. Life is hard and we need each other to overcome challenges.

Contentment

“Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:11-14

If you’re not content, you’ll keep comparing and wishing for more. Whether a child or parent, comparison is a thief of joy. If you want to grow in your relationships, learn to be content with what you have and who is with you. Appreciate what is and dream for bigger thing with God. When you’re content, you can do greater things because you’re not holding in any added weight.

When you compare, when you grumble, and complain, you add more baggage to your heart that isn’t necessary. Check your heart and gauge your contentment.

Commitment

“…I appeal to you in the name of the Lord Jesus with this request: keep faithfully growing through our teachings even more and more.” 1 Thessalonians 4:1

Faithfully grow, more and more. When you commit to your family, to school, to work, or to your projects, you grow more and more. It’s not a stagnant commitment where you just said ‘yes’ but don’t do anything about it. If you’re committed to school, then do your best in everything and leave everything else to God. The same goes with work and relationships. If we want to see growth in commitments, then we must commit to giving our best, loving our best, understanding our best, listening our best, and praying our best.

Blessings!
