"The foundation of effective education

is a strong curriculum."

As a Filipino school, PISD adheres to the premise that the core of patriotism and na- tionalism is the appreciation of Filipino, Mindanaoan and Davaoeno heritage; without which, pride in the Filipino culture cannot be truly imbibed. As love for country remains a personal ideal, it is demonstrated by an unselfish and sincere compassion for the mar- ginalized, underprivileged and disadvantaged members of society. It does not also dis- regards the fact the fact that the environment is of primal importance in upholding the values and principles of a true Filipino. It further believes that national transformation can only be achieved by raising a new breed of leaders who shall govern with integrity, honesty and fear of the Lord.

By: Kristina Camylle Coquilla

“Mathematics is very broad, the more you know, the more you do not know. I cannot exactly say how these learners prepared for this competition, we just reviewed the concepts and practiced the skills but we assure that they don’t get that pressured and stressed. Now, I’m just glad and proud that I, together with their very supportive parents can see how they enjoy this nerve-breaking quest. For all glory and wisdom belongs to God!”, Annika Steffi Garzon, PISD coach said when asked about the team’s preparation in an interview given by Pisay journalists.

Leading in all three rounds – easy, average and difficult, PISD’s power duo –Kristina Camylle Coquilla and Denzel Van Mabini were proclaimed as champions - Ang PINAKAMATHINDI in the Mathindi 2019: 2nd Inter-Primary Mathematics Quest sponsored by Philippine Science High School last August 24, 2019.

Two graduating learners, preferably male and female were invited to represent each competing schools in the event. Ana Central Elementary School with 290 points in third place.

People from all over Region XI gathered last October 12, 2018, Saturday, to witness the 14th Regional Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge organized by the Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG) Philippines held at SMX Convention Center, Lanang, Davao City.

Participants of the said event were competing learners from different schools, members of different organizations and players in open categories of Region XI including our very own school, Precious International School of Davao. They were categorized into 5 groups according to their age, namely: Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, 15 and Under, and Over 15 (Professional Level).

Participants joining the prestigious event, either had to fill out the entry form and pay the registration fee or had to submit answered Sudoku newspaper cut-outs from The Philippine Star, one of the major sponsors of the said event.

During the event, the competing participants’ reasoning and cognitive skills were tested as they answer different types of Sudoku puzzles, such as mini Sudoku, diagonal Sudoku, killer Sudoku, standard Sudoku, irregular Sudoku, squiggly Sudoku and many more.

When asked about what he felt during the break after the 2nd round, Brent Lorenz Uy said “I’m not that nervous anymore, but I want to be champion again.” Last year, Uy remarkably won champion in his first try and he was still this year’s champion in the Under 10 category together with Calvin Job Alejandro Dominguez in the Under 12 category. These boys will compete again for national finals representing Region XI, which will be held in SM North Edsa, Manila.

Sudoku is well-known for its complicated number game of wits that only a few can figure out. However, these PISD learners prove that with a good amount of practice and hard work, no puzzle is too difficult to unravel for them.

The  event successfully concluded with all participants bringing home not only certificates and medals as their rewards but also the unique experience of driving them to do better the next time around.
